“Your off to Great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting so… Get on your way!” -Dr. Suess What is travel? Is is about the number of cities you visit? The number of people you meet? The amount of miles in your journey? How you get to your destination? The answer is yes. But it is also so much more than what is physically done. Travel is about the journey: the experiences, stories, and memories you take home with you. I am an aspiring traveler, and all of my life I have dreamed of places I hope to someday visit. But recently, I have been thinking about what travelling really is, and I realized that I have journeyed to many places and had some of the best times. Sure, I still want to see all corners of the Earth, but I have had some amazing travel experiences close to home, and I didn’t have to climb aboard a plane and cross an ocean. Any time I travel someplace new, I want to make sure that I am getting the full experience of the trip, even if it is an hour away. This past summer, my grandmother, aunt and cousins came to visit from Texas for a month. We love to spend time with each other and actually make it a goal of ours to do something different every summer we are together. Since my family moved here ten years ago, we have always wanted to go white-water rafting. So, we decided to finally make it happen. Eight of us piled into one car and drove about an hour to the Nantahala River. We arrived at the center, which was a little shack with lots of rafts, oars, and life jackets, and our guide began explaining to us the course we were going to take, scaring us a little in the process. We made our way down the river, and had the absolute best time. And we got some pretty fantastic photos as well. Those are the trips I will treasure the most since they are spent with the people I love. Anyone who is on Pinterest will likely share in my love of the travel category which has amazing photos and videos from all parts of the globe. These are my travel inspirations, and are the reason my travel bucket list is so long, and continually growing. In addition to these local excursions, I definitely want to visit basically everywhere in the world before I die. Take a road trip across the country and visit Australia, England, Spain, Africa, Peru…the list just goes on and on. Because I probably won’t be able to cross any of these places off my list in the near future, I will be living through the stories of others’ travels. I am challenging myself to look at my future travels in a new way, searching for ways to make it unique. So, join me in my local adventures and lets keep our travel inspirations alive. |
