So Spring Break is now in sight (thank goodness). I will be spending my Spring Break right here at home because of my rowing schedule, but I know many of you are planning to go on some pretty awesome trips.
If I was planning to take a trip over the break, I know I would be worrying about all kinds of things-- what to pack, how many shoes to bring, where we are going to go... the packing list just seems to grow. I always seem to overpack for a trip by about 10 times, and I am pretty positive that I am not alone.
So for this post, I am going to share with you some tips that I have found to help keep your suitcase (or cases in my case) light and make you a packing pro, leaving you the peace of mind to feel like you will have everything you will need so you can just kick back and relax whether you are at the beach or in a big city. I mean that's the point of Spring Break, right???
So here are some cool tips for both guys and girls that I found that will definitely be helpful for the next time I travel, and hopefully they will help out for you too.
1. Plan your outfits: I know this may seem a like a little much, but planning what to wear for each day of your trip will actually save you a lot of space and keep you from throwing in that dress or four extra shirts that you end up never wearing and just get wrinkly. Also, try to pack clothes that you can mix&match during your trip. This will save you even more space!
2. Limit your shoes: After looking around at other travel blogs, most of them said that 3 pairs of shoes is a good number to pack in your suitcase. I know what your thinking... only 3 pairs? This rule might be a little hard for me to follow, being a lover of all types of footwear and thinking that I need to travel with basically all of them. But, when you think about it, depending on where you are going and how long you will be there, 3 (roughly) pairs might just work. I know in the past when I have traveled to spend a month out of the summer in Texas, flip flops are a staple... probably 90% of the time I'm wearing them, and that's only one pair!
3. Store accessories/tools in easy-to-access containers: Ladies: don't you hate it when you pack up all your jewelry and you get to
your destination and find it to be in one giant knot? I know I do. To solve this issue, I have found that using a toilet paper tube is a life-saver. Put your necklaces through it to keep them tangle-free! Also, most of us girls use bobby pins, but they always, I mean always seem to be disappearing, no matter how many packs you buy. I have found that storing them in an empty Tic-Tac container works great to keep them all in one, easy to reach place! One other thing that I always make sure to do, whether it is going on a 2 week trip, or just to a friends house for the night is to put any liquids/gels in a Ziploc bag. I have had it happen one too many times where I open my bag to find shampoo or face-wash all over my clothes. Not fun.
4. Roll your clothes: This next one is literally a life-saver when it comes to packing. When putting your clothes in your suitcase, try rolling your clothes rather than folding them. It not only saves a ton of space (which could lead to packing those "just in case" clothes, but I won't get into that), and it keeps your clothes from getting super wrinkly, but it also saves you from getting to that moment where you are sitting and jumping on your suitcase trying to zip it shut!
These are just a few of the MANY packing tips that are out there now. Hopefully these help you as much as they help me, and if you need more, Pinterest could turn into your best friend (its already mine for things like this). I have put a few links below to come other blogs that gave some really good tips for packing.
